John Daly Withdraws From Bmw International Open
John Patrick Daly withdrew from the BMW International Open for personal reasons.
Daly who earned US220000 earlier this week at the Telus World Skins event in Thornbury Ont. won the BMW tournament in 2001. Daly also known as Long John is famed for his “zero to hero” victory in the 1991 PGA Championship his driving distance off the tee his noncountry club appearance and attitude and his roughandtumble private life.
“We are very sad that John won’t be taking part but we understand his decision” tournament director Marco Kaussler said last Wednesday. “We hope that his private situation will resolve itself quickly and very much hope that he will be back taking part in the BMW International Open next year.”
Two weeks ago Daly said that his fourth wife tried to attack him with a steak knife while he slept. She claimed that twotime major champion made up the story to cover up a drunken fit. Meanwhile the American professional golfer is expected to play next week at the Buick Open near Flint Mich.
Daly turned professional in 1987 and won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic in 1990. In 1991 he joined the PGA Tour and won the championship. This victory gained Daly a remarkable amount of media hype due to the fact that he was the ninth and final alternate for the championship. Like the efficient BMW steering rack Dalys golf career flourished.
He entered the competition when Nick Price dropped out and no other alternate is available. Daly parlayed this chance into a first round score of 69 without a practice round. He finished the tournament with scores of 676971 giving him a threestroke win over Bruce Lietzke. Eventually Daly was given the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year title. He was also the first rookie to win a major title since Jerry Pate in 1976.
In 1992 Daly won the B.C. Open and the 1994 BellSouth Classic. Three years after he unpredictably won the British Open in a playoff with Italian Costantino Rocca at St. Andrews. Daly is the only eligible twotime major winner never picked to play in the Ryder Cup.
The BMW International Open founded in 1989 is an annual men’s professional golf tournament on the European Tour. The BMW tournament has started Thursday. Ernie Els leads the field along with Henrik Stenson and former champions Colin Montgomerie Thomas Bjorn Miguel Angel Jimenez and David Howell.
That was a decent start to my tournament. I kept it in play hit a lot of greens and made a few putts. It was a nice enjoyable round. The greens are in great condition. Theyre fairly flat and a nice speed. If you keep hitting the greens youre going to make some putts said Els.
JosFilipe Lima said Im very happy with this round because Ive had a bad start to the year and this is very good for my confidence. I even missed some birdies on the back nine. I need to continue like this. If I make 7under Par four times I think its enough to win.
I changed my putter yesterday and had a pretty good round in the ProAm. Today I hit a lot of greens and holed a few putts too. I was lucky that I only ended up in the rough once. If your driving starts to go sideways here you have a big problem noted Marc Farry.
Niclas Fasth said I played fantastically today. Im very happy with my game and its nice to be back in Europe. Im tired but considering the weather maybe I have been lucky with my tee time.

Is The Caparo T1 Really A Racing Car For The Road?
It is safe to say that the Caparo T1 road car has not had the easiest development period. Firstly there was the suspension failure whilst giving passenger laps to assembled journalists then Jason Plato was badly burned on the hands and face whilst testing the car for Fifth Gear. Finally to top it all Jeremy Clarkson called the car undriveable at low speeds during its debut on the Top Gear television programme.
It is not surprising that such stinging criticism has hurt Caparo however in their defence these early tests used preproduction prototype cars and with hindsight Caparo would have actually waited a little longer before letting journalists loose with their new vehicle.
The Caparo T1 has been called a Formula 1 car for the road however as Ferrari discovered back in 1995 when it used the same phrase to launch its F50 model creating such a road car is easier said than done. However anyone who encountered a T1 on the public road with its enormous rear wing open cockpit and overhead air box could be forgiven for thinking they were actually at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The key to the Caparo’s success is its lightweight design as the lighter you can make a car the better it will accelerate stop and handle. Certainly this was the mantra of Gordon Murray when he was designing the Mclaren F1 and that supercar tipped the scales at over 1000kg whereas in contrast the Caparo weighs just 670kg.
The combination of low weight and a 3.5 litre V8 engine that is capable of producing 610bhp gives the T1 an all important power to weigh ratio of 922 bhp per ton which easily trumps the Bugatti Veyron however the Veyron will certainly carry you in significantly more style and comfort. By contrast whilst the Caparo T1 does have two seats the passenger side is very cramped and set slightly back from the driver’s side so you will definitely need to choose your passenger wisely.
When it comes to the performance figures they are nothing short of mind blowing with the car wearing slick tyres it will reach 60 in 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 205 mph with a low downforce set up on the front and rear wings. These figures are all the more astonishing when you consider that the T1 has all of the requisite features including wing mirrors number plates indicator and car headlight bulbs that allow it to be used completely legally on public roads.
The Caparo T1 is a tremendous engineering achievement that pushes the design and construction boundaries and just like any pioneer when you are pushing the limits accidents can and do happen. With the full customer versions of the T1 now on sale its safe to say that Caparo has ironed out those early teething troubles however with a price tag of 225500 dont expected to see one on your high street any time soon.
